Didn’t find the language you were looking for? Did you notice that almost all these downloads are from Faith Comes by Hearing (Facebook)? I was astounded by what I found there: Faith Comes By Hearing offers audio Bible in 712 languages, reaching more than 5.7 billion people in more than 187 countries. And they’re working to make more available in other languages.

I went to the Select Language dropdown menu at their Free Audio Bibles page to see if I could find a couple of languages I’m interested in. I found:

  • Kachin, the Burmese language into which Ola Hanson translated the Bible in the years around the turn of the 20th Century. Ola and Minnie were sent out in 1890 by !st Swedish Baptist Church (our church’s name until the mid-1940s). In the last decade, a strong connection has grown between Bethlehem Baptist and the Kachin church.
  • Ngiemboon, the Cameroonian language whose Bible translation was begun by my brother-in-law in the 1970s. I was there in 2007 at the dedication of the Ngiemboon New Testament (video of music & dancing during the ceremonies). Of all the speakers during the long celebration, Steve was the only one who actually spoke in Ngiemboon. The pleasure of the people when he spoke is a testimony to the fact that nothing speaks to people like their own language, no matter how well they can speak the official language–French in that area of Cameroon.

Having always had the Bible in my own language, it’s hard to imagine what a gift that  has been. But the Ngiemboon New Testament celebration gave me new eyes. After hours of French-language speeches, suddenly their own language flows into their ears. Drowsy eyes open wide and hearts open. You can watch the first couple of minutes of Steve’s address to see it in their faces.

If a foreigner’s speech does that, imagine what impact there is in reading and hearing God’s word in your own language.

It’s taken most of 2 days for me to put this list together. It’s given me great pleasure and it’s my Easter gift to you.

Would you give me a gift in return? Have you found your own heart language here or at Faith Comes by Hearing? Or what’s spoken where you live or work? Or a language that someone you know is learning or speaking where they work? In other words, have you found here a language in which you have a special interest? Your gift to me would be your comment at this post. It could be as simple as naming the language or if there’s more to tell, I would be blessed to read it.

  1. My mom just returned from a trip to Haiti to bring Faith Comes By Hearing’s version of the American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation of the Bible to the Deaf down there. Faith Comes By Hearing is an incredible ministry located here in New Mexico. It’s such a blessing to see them reach out to the Deaf community, who are often overlooked (I used to work with the Deaf.)

  2. Noel,
Thank you so much for sharing about our ministry! We always appreciate new ambassadors for the Great Commission work we love to do. If you are ever in Albuquerque, NM, please be sure to stop by for a tour.

  3. Libby Kabachia

Noel, I was so happy to see your post!!!! And to see my parents’ native language Gikuyu (Kenya) on there just made my day. I’ve struggled to learn the language over the years but what better way to immerse myself in the language than to hear the Word of God spoken to me. Also of special mention, Chinese Mandarin and Spanish, two of my because-of-Jesus languages :-)

  4. Thanks, Noel, for highlighting the joy of hearing God’s Word in one’s own langauge. I’ve heard it said, “A foreign God becomes a personal God” when you realize that God speaks your own language! Knowing this has kept us going all through the years. Now to pray for the 1967 langauges without any of God’s Word. May God raise up many to go to difficult places to finish the task!

  5. Yes, God descended and spoke our language/tongue. We need not ascend to the heavens to speak His language or the language of angels.

  6. Thanks for sharing all these. I love how the Psalms sound in the English readings.

My husband’s family speaks Hungarian, so we would love to find a free Hungarian audio reading to share with them.

  7. Connie Johnson

Thank you Noel :) I passed along the link for the French NT to my eldest daughter who’s in her third college class of French. She’s looking to take more of it as/if she can. May God use these links mightily!

  8. Hillary Glauser-Patton

Thanks for sharing this, Noel. My heart nearly burst seeing all the languages in which the Living Word is available and so easily accessible!

Made me want to hum the song, “Ancient Words.”

I’m particularly grateful for the Chinese edition.

    Blessings and joy!

  9. We have good friends with a different mission agency here in Bolivia that will be going to live in the town of Guarayos among the Guarayo people within 6 months, Lord willing. I’ll make sure they know of this download.
    He is Risen, Indeed!

  10. My husband and I, missionaries in Lithuania, work with orphans. It would be wonderful to have an audio Bible to share with kids and adults. I looked at Faith Comes by Hearing and did not find the Lithuanian language. I wrote an email to them, requesting this resource. Thank you for posting the information about audio Bible and languages. I love listening to and reading my Bible in English (ESV) every day.
    ~ Blessings ~

  11. Ha ~ just received an email replly from FCBH, and the New Testament is available in single voice recording! A great beginning!! It’s after midnight here, so tomorrow I will download and begin listening. A side benefit is that it will help me in learning the language! I will also purchase an MP3 disk which can be played on other computers and listening devices. YAAY!! And I can’t wait to share this info with my Lithuanian brothers and sisters in Christ.

  12. A couple of years ago, I gave the Mende audio Bible from Faith Comes By Hearing to several dear friends from Sierra Leone as a Christmas gift (in a gift basket with some treats). We ran into a little snag when FCBH let me know that I could only burn one copy onto CD. Thankfully, our church pulled together: some donated blank CDs and several signed up with an account so they could burn a copy. Even though it took a little more effort than anticipated, they are such a great resource. It was such a blessing to be able to give my friends God’s word in their language.
