Rescue shop within a yard of hell

It’s easy for my thoughts to drift during radio updates about cholera in Haiti–old news, ho hum.

But I’m snapped back to attention by news from people I know, news about real people who they are touching. Real people who are breathing the same air as Lori and Licia. Real people who want to live as much as I do.

The current count of patients treated in 10 days is 227.  We want to thank each of you that have given to this need.  We also want to thank all those that are praying for us and those that are ill.

Please keep praying and giving.

Excess baggage

Debbie Woodward leaves tomorrow (Thursday 11/18) for Haiti with several hundred pounds of supplies, urgently needed by RHFH as they fight the cholera crisis there. She will pay hundreds for the excess baggage herself when she checks in at the airport.

I suggested to her that some of you might be willing to help reimburse that expense. Here’s her response.

People who don’t care about tax write-offs can send me a check directly.

Others should just donate to RHFH directly [top of right column at the RHFH website] because the needs are SO immense to provide IV fluids and medication to so many people.  Zach is looking for supplies multiple times per week just to get through this initial outbreak which could continue to escalate.

If people sent me more than check-in money, I will forward ALL of the money to RHFH.

Hope that helps.  I think it is best to leave them maximum flexibility with the funds.

She continues by asking for prayer.

We can also all use prayer.  We pray that we stay healthy and that we are able to give assistance to Lori, Licia and the staff.  They are tired.  The staff is becoming fearful.

Please do pray. And thank you for considering a gift.

Giving to Haiti

When I wrote about the cholera epidemic in Haiti, I neglected to mention how you could make financial donations to Real Hope for Haiti.

You can do it directly by going to their website. At the top of the right column are options for giving through Paypal or by check.

Thank you for considering this.

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart,
not reluctantly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.

Haiti’s misery multiplies

Haitian man with cholera

Update: Financial donations are also welcome. Here are instructions for doing that directly.

Last month the community of Cazale gave Real Hope for Haiti Rescue Center a house that they set up as a Cholera clinic. At the same time they were praying that the cholera epidemic might not reach Cazale, but now it has happened.

Today, Debbie Woodward writes me:

Cholera is coming on strong in Cazale now.  Jess Lehman and I will be leaving next Thursday.  Right now they need clipboards for the charts, spray bottles, powdered gatorade or Oral Rehydration Solution, rechargeable lanterns and headlamps.

If you know anyone who can help, please have them call me.  I’d like to have items by Tuesday, November 16th so we can pack and weigh.

And to top it all off:

More earthquake tremors.  The last one didn’t have the “full” release of energy so the prediction is for another earthquake soon.

To contact Debbie, please email me via the Contact link above. Include your name, email address, phone number and way you can help. I will give information to Debbie as I receive it.

If you have finished sewing projects for Haiti, Debbie will try to take them when she goes. Please mail them as quickly as possible to:
