World Autism Awareness Day 2010

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Here is the official United Nations statement, calling on “all governments to make universal human rights a reality for all who live with autism.”

Amen. Lord, may it be.

If you wish you understood more about autism, you might be interested in a video I linked to from Joni and Friends.

  1. Noel,
I have always loved your books and your example as a pastor’s wife. With these posts, I love you even more! As a mom of a child with autism, I thank you so much for shedding light on the struggles we face to be faithful in difficult circumstances.

  2. I was sent this link to a video of a young man with autism who draws entire cities from the aerial view from memory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJThxLloY9E
I thought you might be interested in seeing it (maybe you already have). Here he is drawing to scale Rome. There are links on youtube to his drawing of Tokyo. Thank you for making us all more aware of autism. I have a former co worker who moved here from India. Her first and only son has autism. I have found that she has retreated from others a bit. This inspires me to be intentional about getting together with her and her son to be an encourager and to love them both more. Thank you for the previous post which will cause me to pause when I see an unruly child in public…
