100 and counting

noel in 100 workouts tshirt

Today was my 100th workout at Curves. Just don’t ask me when I got started. But at least I got this far.

Next workout will be #1 towards 200.

I’m curious how many of you work out regularly. How many at Curves?

    Congratulations Noel! That is great!
I’ve joined Curves twice and both times went for one year. I’m now working out at home with “The Firm” videos. The really old DVD’s I bought off eBay.

Keep it up! Even if it’s one day a week, one day a month, etc.!

  2. I went for a few years a bit ago, then joined again when my employer started offering it for their wellness program. I have been at it again since October 28, 2008 going at least 3 times a week. I am stronger, especially since doing Curves Smart. My back no longer hurts and I can lift heavy patients without trouble and I am one of the older nurses!

  3. congratulations on 100 times! that’s excellent! Since we live overseas, no Curves around here (smile) so I use a Denise Austin workout video, it’s about 25 minutes and my young girls like to “join” me doing it too. I enjoy it! I was a member of Curves when we lived in the States and thought that was an excellent workout as well.

We actually just got Wii Fit Plus today so I’m hoping my workouts become more frequent then they have been.

I’ve heard lots of good things about Curves though. Great job on making it to 100!!

  5. 100 workouts is a fantastic milestone! I’ve been a Curves member for five years and love the circuit and the camaraderie.

  6. Congratulations Noel – this is a great accomplishment!

I work out 3-4 times per week – but I am a runner so I just step outside my door and take off. This winter I did take up cross country skiing to help keep my conditioning over the winter and loved it. So in the future, I will run spring through fall and ski in the winter!

  7. I’m a pretty faithful runner in the summertime – at least 3 days a week. Calhoun and the Midtown Greenway are my favorites. But I hate running in the winter time and tend to hibernate instead of just joining a gym like I probably should. But I just got back from my first run since it started getting cold and I feel delightfully exhausted. :)

  8. Well done Noel! I live in England, so no Curves, but there is a tiny gym walkable from home, attached to the squash club – one bike, one cross trainer, one mat, etc!! But very convenient so I go 5 mornings a week- part of waking up. I am hugely grateful to God for daily blessings. Look forward to the pic with you in a 200 T shirt!!

    • We are missionaries in a closed country. No curves only alot of walking and sweating. I lost 15 – 20 lbs this past year, due to not eating the foods that normally we would eat in America as well as walking everywhere we went and it was very hot. We drank a lot of water as well. We are now home on furlough and the guesthouse we are staying in has a treadmill we are using.

  9. Hurray for you, Noel!

I also go to Curves and LOVE it! My goal for this year is 150, which is what I did last year. And it has WORKED! I’m no longer overweight. Keep it up and you will continue to reap the rewards.

I use a heart rate watch to help me keep me heart rate in the 65-75% training zone to maximize my workout, time and money I’m spending on my membership. I check it several times on recovery pads. And don’t forget to stretch ~ it increases the benefit by 60% they say. It’s actually my favorite part.

I’ll be looking to see that 200 T-shirt picture!

    • I’m using Curves Smart right now, which gives a readout on intensity of use on each machine. But maybe a heart rate monitor would be cheaper in the long run and do something similar. Hmmm.

  10. Great job! What an inspiration. Keep up the good work.

  11. Wahoo for 100! My exercise (other than chasing all these toddlers)is TKD twice a week with the older 7 kids. I love to swim laps but getting to the pool alone is near impossible anymore.

  12. Yay for you! I did Curves for a while and loved it but when our 3rd son arrived I just couldn’t find the time. Now I do Jilian Michael’s 30 Day Shred DVD at home. It’s great!

I always remembering seeing the 100th workout shirt on the wall and thinking, “Hmmmm, how long will it take me to get that?” The answer…too long, b/c I never made it. =o) Keep up the good work.

  13. Not all of us who read your blog are allowed at Curves :-) My wife and I, and our two daughters, are all runners.

  14. Congratulations! What is important in exercising is perseverance! I workout “pretty consistently”. My husband started running when he was 8 years old and hardly misses a day. I try to be consistent with my exercising but when its been a couple of weeks and I haven’t, the important thing is to get started again! I have never done Curves, I like to exercise outside whenever possible. I do enjoy running and swimming. Keep persevering!

  15. 100 workouts!! Awesome! I love to walk outside, but while stuck in the house during winter I do workout videos. My most recent video series is The Method by Tracy Anderson (great video if you mute the music) and I also have a Madeleine Lewis video called Get Moving Walking for Weight loss which I enjoy. The craze in my hometown at the moment is Zumba, but I haven’t tried that yet.

  16. I don’t go to Curves, but do exercise on a regular basis. I’ve gone through 2 ellipticals in the past 7 years, now I’m doing Biggest Loser dvds, because they are cheaper than a new machine. I applaud your perseverance. I have to keep at excercise or I will be as big as a house. I love to tease my mother’s side of the family who gave me a ‘fat’ gene. Haha My grandfather and his brothers were very rotund men who loved eating all the bacon, ‘cracklins’ and fat on the prime rib. They were farmers. Anyway, congrats on the 100 times to curves. Press on sister.

  17. After having had 10 kids (now 29 down to 8), I’ve enjoyed Curves (well “enjoyed” anyway) since January of 2009. Lost 10 lbs but feel stronger than before so that’s good. Thanks, Noel, for letting us know you do it too.

  18. Noel:

Congratulations on your accomplishment. I workout twice a week at the gym and have been training for a 5K run that’s this Saturday here in Mississippi. The running I love to hate. The gym I tolerate.

    Keep going!

    Rob

BTW, thanks for your blog. I enjoy reading it everyday.

  19. Congrats!

I regularly exercise. Some weeks I get in 4-5 days of it and some only 2 or 3. Some none! I have two small boys so I do what I can. I work out with the Shred dvd and Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds DVD’s. When the weather is nice, I love to walk outside!

  20. Congrats, Noel . . . Great milestone!
I “work out” (exercise)3-4 times a day for my neck condition, but what has made the biggest difference for me in losing weight is not eating sugar or drinking my beloved Pepsi! The exercises are obviously specialized for me but have made a big difference in my core area. I do not do cardio but incorporate a lot of weight work.

  21. Noel- Way to go! I attend our YMCA and try to go 3 times a week. My favorite class I’ve attended is Pilates/Yoga class. I was able to loose 20 pounds through the class-lots of stretching and abdominal work. It has been great for me after having my second child.

Keep up the hard work-just like our “walk”-we’ll reap the benefits of what we sow. Thanks for your blog! I read it every day.

  22. Great job, Noel. I don’t like gyms mostly because one time my sister and i who are part of a “triplet” went to Lifetime and the personal trainers there were real jerks. He told us (we look exactly alike) that he could tell which one was the ugly one. Nice. Anyway, not fond of gyms. But I do have a Wii Active which is way better than Wii fit. You basically pretend to play sports and do exercises with a band and the game can sense if you do it wrong or not. It’s kept me pretty motivated thus far but we’ll see how it goes. I agree with Bonnie though. I think diet is huge. When I did have a gym membership one of the nicer trainers told me that diet was 70% of weight gain/loss and exercise was only 30%. Keep up the good work!

  23. Congrats Noel! Keep up the hard work! Today was my second workout. I’m taking a zumba class at the YMCA and it’s awesome! I also like to go for power walks on top of our only big hill down here in south Fla. Power walks while talking to God…good stuff! I hoping to stay on a 3 day schedule! Blessings to you…

  24. Well this is just the motivation I needed. We joined a gym (just hubby, oldest son, and myself – it’s so expensive for everyone to join!) at the end of January, and I’ve only been 4 times. I really need to go 4x a week for it to make a difference. Thank you for the goal – 100 times? I think I can do that!

(I’m also interested in Zumba classes – for those that take them, are they terribly hard? I’m an overweight mother-of-many, and while I think that a fun workout might be more motivating and easy to get through, if it practically KILLS me, I might not go back! :-) Thoughts??)

  25. I go to a gym (not curves). I enjoy working out by myself and showering in peace. My kiddos love the playroom too. ;)

  26. You are the cutest thing in the world!!! Keep up the hard work — it WILL pay off! I work out 3-5 times a week. On Saturday’s I work out with a trainer. I never want to go but always feel better afterwards!! GO NOEL!!!

  27. Did Curves but kept getting pregnant after joining. :-) Now I have 4 boys that keep me hopping. When I get a chance (once a week for now) I do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

  28. I run 2 miles 4 times a week and go to the gym to lift weights twice a week. My better half runs with me and goes to the gym with me. He runs

  29. Kathleen McCready

Not a member of your church, but increased my exercise to 2 hour workouts several times a week in order to lose weight for my daughters wedding. I walk one hour and do some type of cardio class, like spin. Also lift weights 2 days a week. I am losing 2 – 4 lbs a week this way.PTL

Could you GPS the location of that really tidy mantelpiece you’re standing in front of? Fresh flowers to match your shirt? Impressive!

    • No credit to me. Someone gave me the flowers. Later Curves gave me the t-shirt. So since I don’t believe in coincidences, I’d have to say God did my designing on this.

  31. I’m sitting here in Sydney, Australia wearing a Curves T-shirt. Tonight was my 271st visit. I’d never stuck at an exercise program before joining Curves. It’s given me more energy for my 3 kids and introduced me to ladies in my community who I wouldn’t have met before.
I hope you’re planning to come Down Under with your husband next year :)

  32. I am trying to lose weight using an elliptical machine at home. Can I just ask, though, what keeps you (or anyone) from becoming discouraged and wanting to quit? I feel like I have to constantly fight against that to keep going. Some weeks are better than others.

  33. Congrats!!!! I joined a gym July 2008 mainly because I started having hormone related sleeping issues. I take the classes-1 hour each: Power (barbell weight lifting) 2 times a week and Spinning 3 times a week. Since I am physically exhausted by evening, it has made be able to sleep through the night. Praise God:) and my husband praises Him too..not just for me sleeping though:)

Keep up the good work! and I love your blog.

  34. I’ve been doing some Nordic Pole walking but really need something more. I’ve got some lower back issues right now, and I’m wondering whether I could handle Curves?

  35. Keep up the good work! I have been working out at the Y for 10 years. It took me 5 years to lose 100 pounds. Now I work out because I love it. I used to hate it but now I love it. And PS I listen to your husbands sermons on my ipod while I’m working out!

  36. I work at Curves! That’s so awesome that you got 100 workouts in! Good job!
