Firsts
It’s gratifying to me that even at age 62 and having already traveled a lot, there are still new things to experience. A little like heaven will be.
Here are several firsts, and we haven’t even been in Egypt a whole day yet.
First time to Egypt.
First time in business class crossing the ocean.
First time knowing where to find Mecca while I was flying. (on the where-you-are-now screen)
First time seeing Egypt touch the Mediterranean.
First time staying in such a red room. Glad my eyes are closed for sleeping.
First time I received a complimentary fruit basket in the shape of swan.
Not pictured: First time a bellman hurried toward us to help with our bags and took the rolling bag from Johnny and left me carrying the heavy no-wheels briefcase. Fluke or culture?

Ha! One more evidence that the way of Jesus is superior!
Have a great time. You are truly living the dream!
My bets with culture.
I’m so pumped your blogging on your trip and sharing it with us! I visited Egypt when I was in college and it was quite memorable – can’t wait to see it through your eyes!
Oh no… you don’t like the red??? I suppose I should tell you then that the remodel project of your bedroom planned for this time away might be a little unnerving then… ;-)
Different. We know and man and his family from Sudan and when he introduced his family to us, he introduced his sons by their names. But their daughters? They were introduced with “these are my female children.” He doesn’t look at me when he speaks to me, either. I’ve adjusted to that, and just accept it for what it is- a cultural difference.
Beautiful! I hope you have a great time. I’ll eventually have to make the trip… Egypt is my mom’s destination of choice for whenever I can get everyone together for a foreign vacation.
I went to Egypt in 1990 as a 16yo. We stayed at the Lillian Trasher orphanage. I fell in love with the people of Egypt. I still miss it. My prayers are with you both.
speechless!
My husband and I lived in Sudan for 15 months. And, I laughed out loud when I saw the swans. This is great! Thanks for posting.
I really enjoyed this post!! :-D
Wow! How exciting; I hope you both have a blast!
Hi. You should check out the Cave Church in Garbage City, which is outside of Cairo. I believe this is a Coptic church and it provides a great place to pray over the city of Cairo. It is humbling to see how God has provided protection of the people of Garbage City and a trade.
Also, Arab World Evangelical Ministers Association is located in Cairo, too. This Arab faith-based, non-profit organization is composed of indigenous pastors and laypersons from different Evangelical denominations and backgrounds working in the Arab World (22 Countries). http://www.awema.org/index.html
This post is really cute! Reminded me that God gives us little “delights” to tell us that he cares even about the smallest details in our lives.
You and your husband are such an inspiration. Wish I could grow old as gracefully as you both are doing.
Dear Noel !
I love the red bedroom just because I tell people and God knows I do :” the color red reminds me of the blood of Jesus and the love of Jesus and ultimately my love for Him < when I saw all that red I smiled and reading through Exodus these past weeks God made sure everything was covered with the beautiful red the blood of the Lamb of God that covers the two of you in His Son Christ Jesus your Lord and Master ! I am praying for you :-)
Perhaps we should ask Pastor John why HE was letting you carry the heavy bag! :) Praying that our Father will use you to be a blessing in Egypt as he has our lives here.
Are you two visiting Isael while in the neighborhood? I would highly recommend it!
Oops, that should be “are you two visiting Israel while in the neighborhood?” Atrocious spelling on my part!
