Some Haitian Orphans to come to the US
We have prayed about the plight of orphans in Haiti, made so much worse by the chaos of the earthquake.
Yesterday the US Department of Homeland Security announced:
. . . a humanitarian parole policy allowing orphaned children from Haiti to enter the United States temporarily on an individual basis to ensure that they receive the care they need . . .
“We are committed to doing everything we can to help reunite families in Haiti during this very difficult time,” said Secretary Napolitano. “While we remain focused on family reunification in Haiti, authorizing the use of humanitarian parole for orphans who are eligible for adoption in the United States will allow them to receive the care they need here.”
Read the rest of the press release to understand more about humanitarian parole and to learn which children are eligible.

Thank you for sharing this. I was just speaking with someone whose husband works in leadership for the FL Baptist Children’s Home today regarding their part in bringing Haitian children to the US.
We agreed that we would be covering this in prayer and that no child who had surviving parents in Haiti would be taken out of the country so that reuniting might be easier.
Awesome news, praise God! Wondering what families can do now to prepare if more orphans not currently matched to families are allowed out either for adoption or for foster care? My wife and I are members at Bethlehem and have been planning on adopting in a couple years, but would love to accelerate that process if we can help care for these kids, but where do we start? Sounds like we need to get a home study done first for adoption, but does that cover foster care also? We’re starting to look into all this, but I’m sure there are many others in the same boat so any advice you can give would be very helpful!
Did I read the statement correctly that under these terms, only these are the children that will be allowed..copied from statement: Children who have been legally confirmed as orphans eligible for intercountry adoption by the Government of Haiti and are being adopted by U.S. citizens. (SO with the AND in the prior sentence, does this mean only those already in adoption process?)
Children who have been previously identified by an adoption service provider or facilitator as eligible for intercountry adoption and have been matched to U.S. citizen prospective adoptive parents. (see the AND again)
I am with you Jon, as I would love to try to adopt one of these orphans. I am just not sure how complicated the process is, but thank you Noel for keeping me informed, with the updates and all!! I also think our church would want to get involved and could provide loving homes to some of these kids. Please keep me updated.
Please let us know if these children need homes (temporary or permanent) We have an adopted sone from Russia and much went into the process. I can’t imagine these children would be released to families without homestudies, gov’t approval, etc.. That said, these kids have been through so much. I really hope Red Tape doesn’t get in the way of them starting over in new families quickly!
If there is ANYTHING we can do… We have three kids – 6, 4 and 1 and would love to share our family with these kids!
