How can we help orphans in Haiti?
I turned to Jason Kovacs with the questions some of you have been asking
1. Can we bring some of the orphans to the US?
2. If not, how are ways that we can help now?
He responded:
I wish I knew the answer to the first question. Dan Cruver and I are following up on some leads and trying to gather the best and most reliable info so we can act as quickly as possible. We can keep you posted.
As for organizations helping orphans, the ones that I have been recommending are:
REAL HOPE FOR HAITI (there’s a second site too)
First two are small but doing BIG things in the lives of women & children. Friends of ours and others in the church here in Austin have worked with all these ministries and trust them.

I am so happy to see you giving a link to both of the smaller ministries. I know both and they are doing amazing things. Any money given to them will be used well to serve the Haitian people.

Noel, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. My husband John and I have had these children heavy on our hearts. My heart is breaking every day thinking of the babies without shelter, running out of food and water. While I am happy to send money I just want to take at least one of those babies in my arms and into my house until order is restored, or even for the rest of their life. If you come across any information regarding the adoption of these children, I would be very greatful to be informed. Thank you for everything you and Dr. Piper do.
Hi Noel,
Thanks for this link. I would also add our friends here, Brooke, the nurse mentioned, is serving as a nurse for an orphanage now medical center there and they need supplies!

brothers and sisters,
I would like to encourage you all with a complementary perspective.
There is a ministry based in northern WA, Starfish Ministries (http://starfishministries.org/) that serves children in Haiti, guided by local pastors. Anyway, their mission is to raise up children to love and serve Jesus Christ and CHANGE HAITI for the Lord Jesus. I have been blessed to spend two wonderful weeks in Haiti with Starfish, and oh boy I have to tell you that I have seen God’s powerful hand moving in the children’s minds and hearts (seeing my best buddy from the orphanage mature profoundly over the year I was away was INCREDIBLE!!)
I could go on and on about stories of God’s grace and wrath and beauty in Haiti–and happily will if requested–but to anyone with children and adoption on their hearts, be encouraged that God may lead you to bring a child home, or He may design that they stay in their country to be His frontline warriors & witnesses in the rebuilding process. Check out starfish’s website also for frequent updates as one the staff JUST ARRIVED in PaP with a Satellite phone to assess the situation!
By His grace,
Melissa
